The most fun of the “Caesar” games4
A combination of Caesar III, Sid Miers Civilizations and Maxis’ Sim City games from the late nineties, Pharaoh takes a lot of what made those games best sellers and combines it into a pretty entertaining, if at this point dated, game. Back in the 90s, “God” style games in which you care for and manage a teeming world of buildings and their denizens were having their hay-day.

While Maxis continued to churn out the Sim City franchise, and Civilizations and it’s many spin offs have become legend, most games are not either FPS (First Person Shooters) or RTS (Real Time Strategy). The 90s produced some exceptional top-down city management games, and Pharaoh is a good example. Unfortunately, just like the Egyptian empire that you play in the game, poised at its height of glory, this style of game has fallen largely to the wayside. That’s unfortunate.

A city management game at heart, Pharaoh gives you much more control over what you build and where you build it than Sim City games. You choose which buildings you want, and where they will be built, allowing you to create a city to your exact design.

War making does come into play, but it is secondary to city building. Many of the missions will require you to create an army and lead them to victory, but this feels largely anticlimactic compared to the fast paced city management that requires 80 percent of your time.

This game is quite complex, entertaining, and truly a classic of the genre. If you’re considering buying it, there are other options like Caeser III, but I think this is a superior game. If you like strategy games pc from the 90s, this ones definitely for you.

A game for the future city planners5
Its a great game if you enjoyed games like starcraft and other empire like games. I played this game back in high school, lost it, then purchased it again just to beat it because it is a really good time waster.

old game installation issues1
I love this game (from back in the day) and would like to play again but I could never get it to install on my old laptop (2003 model with Win XP). Apparently something about the SP2 patch messes with game installation. I tried to install it on Win 98 later but that didn’t work either.

Your elite unit consists of six members of the U.S. Special Forces, expertly trained in various fields. The success of numerous covert operations rest solely on your ability to analyze the situation and utilize each soldier’s specialty.

You are in direct control of the main character. As team leader, you issue orders to the other soldiers to determine the way in which your missions will proceed. The remaining five team-members assess each situation based on the fundamental rules of behavior for an elite unit. The soldiers know how to act, how to protect themselves, and how to fight. But their distinct personalities cause them to react differently during stressful conditions.

Types of Missions:

• 100% Action – Defend yourself from the onslaught of enemy attacks, with the destructive power of an under-sling helicopter gun, a heavy gun set on the rear of a jeep, or from the tranquility of a boat powering up the river.
• Solo – Face the enemy alone. Struggle through the claustrophobic confines of tunnel systems or just run for your life after being separated from your team. It’s up to you and you alone.
• Squad – Work as a team, sweeping through dense jungle or facing the dangers of exposed ruins. Use your team member’s specialties and stay in touch with HQ to attach the enemy and reach the Landing Zone.

Nice realistic FPS
Vietcong really shines as a realistic first person shooter. Even on my moderately high-end gaming machine I have to turn down the specs some so it isn’t so sludgy on mouse movements, though. Everything is realistic and entertaining. The jungle warfare is great and unparalled in the industry. Get this pack because it includes the expansion. Overall it’s an awesome pc game and really worth the money!

Vietcong: Purple Haze
Not only a tremendous ego-shooter this is the best action game I’ve ever owned! Graphics (on my system anyway) 10, Story 10, voice-acting 10, replay value 10. Lots of levels, great music/sound. Many “quickfight ” levels and weapons to be unlocked – this game has it all at the highest quality level!

Decent FPS
This game is best when played online, with lots of cover, several different kinds of weapons, and many different types of games (DM, TDM, CTF, etc.) and maps. Single play, for both, are challenging, especially on vietnam difficulty (no HUD). Do a search and try out the demo.
